New Year's Eve invites go out late, get answered later, and half the replies are "maybe, depends what else is on". So the wording has to do two things: sound like a night worth committing to, and ask for a real answer by a real date.

What to put in a New Year's Eve invite

• Start time, and whether people should come for dinner or after.
• The address. Say something about getting home, since nobody wants to think about it at 1 am.
• Dress code, if there is one. "Sparkly" is a dress code.
• Kids or no kids. If yes, say when the early countdown is.
• What's provided and what to bring. Bubbles for midnight is the classic ask.
• A reply-by date. For NYE, ask early, people fill up their calendars fast.

NYE is the night people keep two invites open. Ask for a clear answer, early:

• "Reply by December 15, we need to know how many bottles to chill."
• "Say yes or no by the 18th. Maybes count as no, sorry."
