18th Birthday Invitation Wording: 26 Examples to Copy

• Thomas

An 18th usually has two guest lists at once: the friends, and the family who want to be there for the milestone. Sometimes it's two parties. Either way, the invite is often sent by a parent for a party the birthday person mostly planned, or the other way round.

Below are 26 examples, sorted by the kind of party. Further down there are short versions for the group chat and a few RSVP lines.

What every 18th birthday invite needs

  • Whose 18th it is (full name if family is invited).
  • Date, start time and, for a house party, an end time.
  • Place.
  • Who's hosting, if it's the parents.
  • Dress code or theme, if there is one.
  • Whether guests can bring a plus-one.
  • How to RSVP and by when.

Send it three to four weeks ahead. For a venue or a dinner with a set menu, send it earlier, since you'll need a number a week or two before.

RSVP wording that gets answers

With an 18th, the part that goes wrong is the plus-ones. One friend brings three more, and the food runs out at nine. Say it on the invite:

  • "Please RSVP by October 10 and let us know if you're bringing someone."
  • "Feel free to bring a plus-one, just add them when you reply."
  • "This one's friends only, sorry, no plus-ones."
  • For a surprise: "Please reply using the link, not in the group chat."

A reply-by date a week before the party gives you time to nudge the ones who haven't answered.

Sending it

With the free 18th birthday invite maker you put the wording on a card, share one link by text, WhatsApp or Instagram, and guests reply with their name. No signup and no app, which helps when half the guests are friends and the other half are grandparents. Plus-ones are counted on the same reply, so you see the real number.

If you already have an invite and only need the replies, the 18th birthday RSVP form handles that part on its own. For other ages there are birthday invitation wording examples too.

Happy 18th to whoever it is :)
